Often it’s very hard to see our own beauty. When others compliment us we wonder why, and instead of saying ‘Thank you,’ we disagree out loud. We should accept the compliment as we would accept any other gift, because in all actuality, it is one of the greatest gifts we can receive. Accept a compliment graciously and let it make you feel wonderful!
Each one of us has something unique to offer the world. You really are beautiful inside. You are deserving of all good things. You are worthy of feeling like a princess (or a prince) and you are worthy of living a joyful life. By denying a compliment, you take that away from yourself. You are sending the message to yourself that you do not deserve something that feels good. Just remember: you don’t have to prove to anyone (not even yourself) that you are worthy; you were born worthy.
But you don’t have to wait for others to give you a compliment; you can (you should!) compliment yourself. Everyday, look in the mirror and tell yourself how important you are, how fantastic you are, and how special you are. All day long think about how smart and vibrant and full of life you are! Even if right now you are not feeling very confident and beautiful, keep telling yourself that you are and eventually you will feel it. (Trite, perhaps, but true: What you are in the future is determined by what you think today.)
Acknowledge and accept all the compliments you receive. Promise that you will never again deny yourself the right to feel beautiful!
Salma Hayek says it brilliantly, “People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.”
